Our Story
Korohe Wild was born from our backyard, our lifestyle, and our love of sharing the land. We’re a whānau-run retreat in the Taupō region, and for us, manaakitanga, the Māori value of hospitality, generosity, and care sits at the heart of everything we do.
This isn’t a resort or a cookie-cutter tour. We host only one group at a time so when you’re here, it’s all yours. The home, the 4WDs, the land, the rivers, the stories, and the gear, no strangers, no crowded trails, no waiting in line. Just you, your people, and the wild.
Our aim is simple: To give you the freedom we grew up with. The chance to wake up with no fixed schedule, look outside, and decide what adventure the day will bring. Some days it’s a gentle horse trek or a paddle with the kids. Other days it’s chasing trout with a specialist guide, or revving quads up forest tracks. And sometimes, it’s just relaxing by the fire with good kai, a glass of wine, and the sound of the bush all around.
We built Korohe Wild to be more than a place to stay. It’s a basecamp, a playground, and a home away from home — created with the belief that true luxury is about time, freedom, and connection.

We believe in adventure without compromise. Horses and quads are guided by experienced staff so you can ride with confidence. Kayaks, bikes, and fishing gear are available to use at your own discretion, while our guides are always nearby to support when needed. Whether it’s tamariki catching their first fish or experienced riders heading out for a backcountry trek, you’ll know safety is woven into every experience.

We are proud to ground Korohe Wild in Māori values. Manaakitanga (hospitality and generosity) is how we welcome you, and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) is how we care for the whenua we share.
